Heartnut Festival 2002

September 7th, 2002

This year our club joined in with the Heartnut Festival at Johnson County Park to create a day out for all the family. This is a well established annual event, but this is the first time for us which probably accounts for the registration count which was a little on the low side at only 41. There was also a fair bit of competition from other shows going on this day. However, the weather was sunny and we all had a great time.

Here you can see Bill West who did a marvelous job as DJ and general announcer despite some technical difficulties (nothing a large hammer wouldn't fix!)

The registration table was always fully manned (or womaned) where you could register your car, pick up goodie bags and enter to win a Longerberger basket (the latter being won by.... yes?....really?....ok, Greg Graham, congratulations Greg!)
Some folk said, "what?, a bake sale?" but as you can see from these tables plenty was baked and the sale raised over $250 for charity. Thanks to everyone who participated in this.

The 12 People's Choice winners were:
Bob Nichols (51 Chevy Pickup), Gene Sheely (73 Vette), Steve Wisdom (70 Road Runner), Dan Deutsch (69 Chevelle), Paul Isgrigg (54 Kaiser Darrin), Steve & Karen (70 Dodge Challenger), Bennie Reed (68 Chevelle), Rick & Ginger Zimmerman (70 Plymouth), Mike Terry (54 Vette), Dein Garry (55 Chevy Nomad), Matt Burton (57 Chevy Bel-Air) and Frank Jones (66 Vette)

The Lucky 12 Winner's were:
Vince & Nancy Mercuri (93 Vette), Jamie Clark (94 Toyota Supra), John Jump (84 Vette), David Burns (98 Vette), John & Patty Mandabach (31 Ford Coupe), Harry & Pat Armstrong (63 Chevy Nova), Robert Nichols (67 Chevy Pick-Up), Chris Hendrickson (74 Vette), Michael Graphman (70 El Camino), Fred Burton (65 Dodge Dart), Dean Skinner (82 AMC Spirit), Charlie Kinder (56 T-Bird)

The Club Participation award was won by South Central.

(I apologize if any names have been spelt wrong, it is sometimes difficult to read my handwriting when it's rushed)

This is 'Martha's Moonwalk" although this is not Martha and Lee. In fact, this is Kim and Nancy giving them a break.

Here's a collage of some of the cars that participated in the show.
