| What a day! We all thought it might rain as
there were quite a few clouds when we set off from the Cracker Barrel
parking lot in Edinburgh, but the sun won out and we had more trouble
fending off sunburn than rain as the day wore on.
Making the trip from our club was Ryan and Angie Money, Ron and Charlotte Weber, Steve Baker (later joined by his wife Deanna, daughter Malorie and others), Dan and Daniel McElroy (although they had to leave before lunchtime) and myself. We cruised up I65 at a steady pace and had no trouble in finding the venue. The Circle City Club put on a great show with live music, enough door prizes for just about everyone to win twice. A 50/50 drawing and lots of trophies for the best cars. They undertook the daunting task of judging the cars themselves and it looked to me like they did an excellent job. Ron and Charlotte Weber took home two trophies; best in class and best in show for their 1959 beauty. Not only that, but they also went home a good deal richer having won the 50/50 drawing, but only just. They had drawn the winning ticket, and called the number several times, with no-one claiming the prize and you had to be present to win. The number was read again, for about the sixth time, and they were just about it give in and draw another number when Ron realized he was holding the winning ticket. That's what you call 'a close call' :) But they were not the only winners of the day. I was very happy to take home a nice 3rd place plaque for my 1987 in the 1984-1990 class. The only bad part of the day was getting out. A lot of drivers were wanting to go left on the main road and traffic was terrible. If there was anything to improve for next year it might be to have a traffic cop handy. Otherwise, a great day and I'll be looking forward to their show next year. Richard Blackman. |
